Cosmopolitan Routes: Houston Collects Latin American Art comprises more than 100 masterworks on loan from private holdings in Houston and Latin America, including paintings, works on paper, photography, sculpture, assemblage, installations, and video projections. This presentation is the first in a series of exhibitions celebrating the 10th anniversary of the museum´s Latin American Art Department and International Center for the Arts of the Americas (ICAA). Culled from the private collections of MFAH supporters, the works on view range from early Modernism and postwar Latin American art to contemporary manifestations. Among the artists represented are Antonio Berni, Gego, Frida Kahlo, Roberto Matta, Francisco Matto, Hélio Oiticica, Diego Rivera, Jesús Rafael Soto, and Joaquín Torres-García. Cosmopolitan Routes is a tribute to the Founding Members and Latin Maecenas who have supported the museum´s Latin American art initiative and its collecting activities since the department´s inception in 2001. Elias Crespin’s mobile Tetralineados Circular Azul (2009) is on display. The Museum of Fine Arts Houston Beck Building 5601 Main Street Houston, TX, USA www.mfah.org
